If you like your fun on the water to be bold and flashy with plenty of power - jet power that is - Scarab has what you’re looking for. The Scarab 255 HO Impulse boasts one of the biggest jet drives on the market with twin 250 hp Rotax engines.
With a total of 500hp on tap, this boat is quick! It takes only three-point-six seconds to get to 20 miles per hour and five-point-two to get to 30. Top speed is an impressive 52.3 miles per hour - a decent number for a test weight exceeding 4,000 pounds.At 5,500 rmp, a comfortable cruise speed of 30 mph can be dialed in.
What this big boat delivers is a roomy interior with space for 13 and the power to have some serious fun. The optional three-compartment Wake Blast System allows you to switch it up for a day of wakeboarding or wakesurfing.
Scarab’s 255 is offered in three trim models: the base 255, the 255 HO and the all out 255 HO Impulse. Each trim level offers a host of desirable features and a choice of Rotax power from twin 150s to twin 250s.
Our test boat in Laser Red had premium upholstery - a first-rate standard in this boat. Smart Mat carpeting that drains away water and resists mold and rot makes a good add-on.
The 255 features a large draining locker in the swim platform, a good-size change room or head area with an opening to port, plus a sink and a Porta-Potti. Seating is plentiful in the 255. Scarab’s Versa Lounge aft seating system converts from a sunpad to multi-position lounge seating and cockpit seating features fill-ins to create a full U lounge.
Heading out on the water I found the helm comfortable, well protected and the controls and instrumentation intuitive. The RotaxiControl system allows you to easily select from Cruise Mode, Eco Mode, Ski Mode and Docking Mode. The presentation of modes and data is straightforward.
Underway the Scarab 255 gives you both the ride and sensation of a traditional boat, but when pushed reminds you that it still has all the attributes of a jet boat.
